I’ve never seen her in concert, so this July I bought tickets for Cameron and I to see her at Pepsi Center for his birthday. It’s tonight. Excitement is in the air. Cameron is currently at home trying to figure out what to wear — not because he’s worried about Madonna seeing him and not because he’s afraid of what bitchy things the other gays will say about him. No, he’s worried that the male counterpart (Monkey Larry) of the straight couple we are going with will look better than him.
I suggested something with glitter.
Beyond Cam’s clothing options, I can tell he’s excited. He’s a big fan and I’m glad I get to see her with him; however, I want the big over-the-top show. Cam told me she ended up doing an acoustic set in L.A. recently. Well, that’s not what I paid for. I want mirror balls and half-naked dancers. Damn your divorce and your feelings of loss, Madge. We want Vegas!
Or at least do the acoustic set for those suckers who ended up having to buy tickets for the second show tomorrow night.
UPDATE: The show was over-blown, decadent, unnecessary and extravagant. In other words, it was great.
Listening to: “The First Person On Earth” - Tracy Chapman
At the video store Friday night, one of our regulars was in — Charles. He’s a good friend of Nancy who I work with on Fridays. Nancy had put in the 1954 film, Magnificent Obsession, and Charles was watching the opening credits. When Agnes Moorehead’s name came up, Charles told us in the middle of the conversation that he had looked up Moorehead the day before and discovered their shared the same birthday.
Me (in a bitchy tone): Was it the same year?
Charles: Nooo.
Me: That’s too bad. Coz if it was then I wouldn’t have to listen to this. You’d be dead.
No, he started laughing his ass off as did Nancy and I. I did apologize to him saying that it was too easy not to pass up saying it. Don’t worry. Charles has zinged me several times over the years.
Listening to: The Best of 2008 Monkey’s Uncle Mix because I just finished it for tonight’s show.
Here is the song that I cranked on the way to work this morning. I hadn’t heard it in years. My first exposure to Supertramp was “Blood Well Right” which I loved because I learned that ‘bloody’ can be a curse word in the UK, which made me think that the group was getting away with something. Turns out ‘bloody’ is about as bad a ‘damn’. Yawn.
Two albums later (I missed “Give A Little Bit” until years later), America was taken by storm with Breakfast In America that included “The Logical Song” which would become their biggest hit in the States. After this success, they decided to release a live album called Paris and released the live version of “Dreamer” as a single — their first hit in the UK, but didn’t make a dent in America.
Here is that song in its original studio form from a British TV show. So shall it now be stuck in your head!
As I walked across the street today to get lunch, I found everyone to be extremely attractive. I wondered why that was until I realized that I had on my hope goggles. Last night’s election results proved to me that maybe America has made great strides on the racism issue which gives me more hope.
Unfortunately, as racism seems to be lessened today, homophobia seems more rampant. With Arizona and Flordia passing a ban on gay marriage and — what is a huge surprise to me — California seems to be banning it after making it legal. One battle at a time, I guess.
