Golden Globes Wrap-Up

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Well, another year of the Hollywood Foreign Press’s awards and as always they tend to be more fun to watch than the Oscars because of the alcohol everywhere. There were no big surprises in a year that held some great entertainment at home and in the theater houses. Let’s recap the winners, eh?

Best Motion Picture - Drama
Babel
This film, uh — well, I didn’t see it.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama
Helen Mirren for The Queen
Hmmm, didn’t see this one either.

Best Actor (Drama) — didn’t see it; Best Comedy or Musical — didn’t see it; Best Actress (Comedy) — didn’t see… WAIT! I saw the last half at the store, you know when you don’t see as much of Streep… nevermind.

Uh, the rest of the list — didn’t see it, didn’t see it, didn’t see it… Ooooo!

Best Animated Feature Film
Cars was great and it beat out Happy Feet, which was good but had a bunch of buzz and cute fuckin’ penguins and blah, blah. That’s a surprise.

Okay, back to the list: didn’t see it, didn’t see it, ditto, repeat.

Best Original Song in a Motion Picture
OH! And Prince won for best song from Happy Feet! I own that! And listen to it, uh, well, I listened to it once according to iTunes.

Now on to the television awards…

Hmmm, don’t watch that one, nor that one, that one, that one, that one, that one, that one, that one… None of them. Oh, well.

And that’s our in-depth look at the winners of the Golden Globes. Join us next year for the same list of nominees with a few newbies sprinkled in for color.

Get this — according to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros is making hit television comedies for Russian. Sorry, RE-making them. The latest is a remake of "Perfect Strangers" that aired for what seemed like forever on ABC (’86 - ‘93). The Russian actors even wanted to study the American version for inspiration. Your first question be, "Why?!" According to one of the Russian stars, "The American actors have that accuracy which is so necessary in a sitcom: accuracy of tempo and pauses."

Are they watching the same show?

As for the Russian take on Larry and Balki, they’ve rewritten 70% of the shows because American jokes don’t work in their culture. Imagine that, but they say the characters are the same, "Andrei and Ivan are like chalk and cheese — they have virtually nothing in common except they are distant relations [wait, chalk and cheese are related? Oh, right. They both start with 'C'.], but both want to try their best and are forever repeating, ‘We are, after all, brothers,’ which adds to the irony and comic situations."

HilARious.

Turns out that Russia is ready for mindless drivel on their boob tubes since they are about to start remaking shows of such high caliber as "Suddenly Susan" and another show that just wouldn’t die, "Full House".

"Papa, little comrrrade daughter need cocaine. Daughter geetting faet. Nevermind, daughter thrrow up vodka and borsch to get rrid of extrra wayt. Dah, very much. Besides mine hair is parfect."
