Web Pen Blog Radio

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Broadcasting now! I was a member of Live365 many years ago before this blog but after I started my own web site. Yeah, I don’t know either why it took me so long to jump on the blog bandwagon since The Web Pen has been around for close to eight years if not more. I was prompted to rejoin with the Jammie Thomas suit and friendly advice from Scott.

As of tomorrow all posts in the music mixology category will have their flash players and download links removed; however, you will be able to hear them on Web Pen Blog Radio! The cool thing about this is that I’ll be able to do live radio shows soon since they’ve developed a Mac version of their software while I was gone. This will be next year after the purchase of a new computer.

In the meantime, if there is a mix that you want to hear in the category, I can easily put it in the playlist and start it for you. Just email me and I’ll email you back that it’s cue up if I’m at a computer (which is a lot of the time). That’s right — I’ll take requests.

The station is listed under Freeform which is a format that is endanger from recent royalty increases thus another fun Internet activity may go away because someone out there is only concerned about money. Until then this is my only ‘legal’ way to display these kooky mixes.

How does it work? Go to the radio station’s homepage and press the big yellow button. Which ever media player you have installed that handles streaming audio will automatically open or your browser will download a small file that you can double click. All the major media players handle it.

And as a bonus feature the station will be playing the Halloween Atmosphere Mix all day in celebration of All Hallow’s Eve. Play it loudly to spook the kiddies, but not too loudly to scare them away. Unless you want all the candy yourself.

The Web Pen Blog Makes It Big

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Skipping a post today seemed appropriate. With two comedy shows and a huge birthday burlesque show this week, I’ve been swamped and had nothing planned until I found out this blog got into trouble.

Now is the time all of you should be giving that old school-time chorus of “Oooooooo-ooooo”.

I received my first Cease And Desist order! It seems that I have violated copyright law and now can officially start my career in evil. Anyone want to be a minion? I hope there is a cool lair for sale in Denver — the market is just ripe for plunder right now.

The offending post is the snarky one I wrote making fun of people pointing out the flaws in the arguments of people commenting about how we should stop spending money on the Hubble Telescope. There is a picture used in the post that belongs to someone else. Now while I only get an average of 150 visits a day, the post is one of the most popular mostly because of the searches for pictures so I understand the email.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t as stinging as I hoped. They gave me the option of keeping the picture up if I put a copyright notice and a link back. Poo. I need to rethink this evil career path. Maybe start smaller. I know! I’ll start making fun of celebrities! Perhaps I’ll start by snapping pictures of drunken Broadway stars and Pia Zadora with no panties on. Then I can graduate to half-assed writing and drawing white globs on Hollywood celebrities faces. I can then start getting sued out right.

“To dreeeeam the impossible dreeeeam…”

Crap. I hope Joe Darion’s estate doesn’t come after me now.

P.S. In the email, they sent me the picture again. Obviously, it was to show which picture they were referring to, but it also cracked me up since it seemed like an invitation to use it again.

P.S.S. The copyright symbol at the top of the post is mine. I made it. So you are more than welcome to use it where ever you’d like.

Hopefully, humor-blogs.com won’t tell me to stop trying to be funny.

Changing Hosts

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Fair warning. I’ve put into motion a change in hosts, so the site and the blog may be unavailable for a time over the next couple of days. I’m going to have to turn off comments as well until the blog is situated again.

Thank you for your patience and the fact that I can’t hear the grumbling.

UPDATE: The move is finished and the blog is noticeable faster now. Honestly, I’m surprised I got it all done in a 7-hour time period.

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

Jestertunes posted this today, so I ran their program over my blog.
