Don’t Be An Unwiped A-hole

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

I was a little depressed this morning to see the Daily Kos Poll show that Barack is only up 6 points. Honestly, I’m worried about this election. Yes, I’m all for a Barack Obama presidency after endorsing him and then actually voting for him, but I’m really concerned about the race aspect of this election. All my friends tell me, “Oh, you’re so old-fashioned. America has grown up and it’s less of an issue in the Naughties.”

They didn’t grow up in South Carolina and see the ickyness that is still happening there. Look, I’m an optimist at heart and want to believe that America has indeed matured to the point that enough people ignore the tone of someone’s skin and instead analyzes their actions, thoughts and ideals as a way to determine if they are worthy of respect. I want to believe in the change that is being promised, but too many people have uneducated and out-dated ideas that basically make them behave like big, old, puckered, unwiped assholes. *sigh*

Do me a favor and make sure you vote. In fact, here’s an old post/essay that I wrote refreshing you on Social Studies and why our Republic really does begin with you. It has some links to help you do some research on who your elected officials are, too. Do that research. Educate yourself. And then go out and vote if you’re registered and haven’t done so yet. If you didn’t register, do it now and get ready for 2010. Please? Thank you.

I’m still depressed, but my good old iPod reads my feelings and played this to cheer me up. I’d like to go to Funkytown for a day or two and just escape for a while. *re-sigh*

UPDATE: I posted this on my Daily Kos diary and got so many complaints about the title I finally just took it down. It made me really appreciate my readers (Thank you!) and the fact that they appreciate all kinds of humor whether it be satire, parody, intelligent or “stuck in the third grade”. I keep forgetting that people of any extreme have closed their minds to anything else. *triple-sigh*

Music For Trick Or Treaters

It’s two years old now, but I still like it. It’s the Halloween Atmosphere Mix that I like to play from somewhere in the yard to spook the kiddie just a bit. It has some goofy stuff on it, too. The post is here. Have a safe & fun Halloween!

Iron Man

Friday, October 24th, 2008

I’ve been threatening to do this since Iron Man came out on video. Sing to the tune of the first animated “Spider-Man” theme song. If you can’t remember how it goes, see the opening sequence on YouTube.

Iron Man
Iron Man, Iron Man
Does whatever an iron can
Steam and press, any time
Extra starch? Just a dime
Wrinkle!
Here comes the Iron Man

Shirt’s too stiff?
Sorry, Bud,
He’s got alcohol in his blood
Can he mend with a thread?
Suit was stained where he bled
Thimble!
Drunk, boozing Iron Man

Chemicals, he smells
While he is dry cleaning
Grass stains he dispels
Your pockets he’s screening

Iron Man, Iron Man
Friendly neighborhood laundry man
Barely paid
His reward:
Action is on a board

To him, life is a great big hanger
Your mom - he wants to bang her
MILF-lovin’ Iron Man!

Have a great weekend!

Crash And Burn Girl

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Swedish singer/songwriter Robyn has been around since 1995. People in the US probably remember her for her dance hits “Do You Know (What It Takes)” and “Show Me Love”. Europop doesn’t do well here and when she was starting to record her newest, Jive Records didn’t like the sound for this or any market. Jive is the home of Britney Spears and were prepared to send Robyn down the Spears path to fame. She wasn’t going to have it. She wanted control of her music. So in 2005 she bought out her contract and started her own label, Konichiwa Records.

That album finally hit American shores this year and did it make a splash with the music press with many of them saying it was one of the best albums of the year. Of course, I was curious. How could a silly, little pop album be one of the best of the year? I bought it. Guess what? It’s pretty damn good. And it’s satisfying knowing that someone bucked the system and was very successful with it.

Here is my favorite song on the album. “Crash And Burn Girl” is a tough, wake up call to a friend. My favorite part is the opening line, “I should write a song about you/And all the shit that you do.” Such delicious irony.
