Exceededly Tired Of Being Exceededly Ill
Monday, February 18th, 2008 at 10:35 am
I’m so very done with this. Last Tuesday I started to show symptoms of the ickyness that Cameron and two of my co-workers had. It was the worst on Thursday, but now just keeps lingering around like celebrity gossip. I can’t tell which is worse: waking up drowning in sweat, coughing so hard that I feel like I’m going to vomit or
the horrible nightmares caused by the few seconds I caught of The Doodlebops one morning. No really. If you dare the rancid dreams, click on the picture and you will join me in worse vividness than anything Freddy Krueger could invent.
Speaking of rancid, everything I try to eat or drink tastes like cardboard including the coffee I made this morning. I’ll probably just recycle it later. And not the natural way.
To make things worse, the Monkeys have a show tonight (Jazz@Jack’s at 7:30pm. Oh, yeah, I had to plug it) and I’m probably only going to be able to work from the booth and not on stage. This is fine actually as I don’t want to be jumping around on stage making sure that my body’s defenses weaken even more.
I just hope I’m better by Thursday since I’m flying to Utah to visit my mom and to see my grandmother, who unfortunately isn’t expected to make it through the year. It’s… the cancer. Mom’s side of the family has a long history of it and Grandma has been battling it like a trouper for several years now. Unfortunately, all the doctors have now said the same thing: time to put the affairs together and just wait. Her pain medication is continually being upped as her pain intensifies, which many of you know means the beginning of the slow degeneration.
Of course, as typical with my life, the following weekend will be a complete juxtaposition when I witness one of my best friend’s weddings. Matt2 and Leslie are getting married on February 29th (funny in itself) in a wedding at the Oxford Hotel in a stylish 30’s-style ceremony. I also get to MC the event and so got a zoot suit to wear. (Yes, I’ll post pictures.) It should be fun and am glad that the month is ending on this note instead of the other way around.
BTW, if anybody has any advice on traveling while ill, I’ll be glad to hear it. My ears are already stuffed full of crap and don’t want my eardrums blowing out on a short flight to Salt Lake City.

Take a decongestant that you know works before you fly. I flew 8 hours with a head cold and will NEVER do that again!
Hope you feel better soon.

I’m sorry you’re still not feeling well.
The Doodlebops are the scariest (and most annoying) things on the face of the planet.

The Monkeys, not the Monkees, right? Phew, Bossy had to check.

PS feel better!

I totally feel your pain. The flu knocked me out of commission a a month ago for a full week, and I’m still coughing. The one plus is that I haven’t had a cigarette for 4 weeks today. It’s quitting time!
Hold on, it’ll get better.
I’m sorry to hear about your grandma…
Hope you make through your travels.

Decongestant nasal spray. Yeah, you’ll probably have to find a street dealer to score it but it works when you’re flying. Or you can start driving now.
What Michael said. I was the proud recipient of that little school project when my kids brought it home and it took about a week for me to feel better and another week or so for me to get rid of the cough and then yet another week after that to get all the yellow-green snot out of my head. (Oddly enough, when that happened, I lost several IQ points.)

So what color zoot suit did you get? We thought about going zoot, but decided on tails instead.

Well, that sucks Howard. I hope it all disappears soon! Seems like a lot of peeps are lingering on with nasty funks of one shape or other. I keep telling you to stay out of the bushes in the parks, but you don’t listen. They’re incubators for all kinds of colds.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother.
Hope you feel better soon.

I hope you’re better soon, and sorry about your grandmother. I lost my dad to cancer so I know how tough that is.
I was in my doctor’s office last week for an rather routine visit and nearly came away from there with the flu. Everyone in the waiting room had it.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother, and your terrible flu.
I think I can feel the first stages of a flu creeping up on me right now, although it might just me being a hypochondriac.
Oh, great! So now I’ve got hypochondria AS WELL as the flu!

Son I am so sorry you have been sick. Make sure you feel better real soon. I can’t wait to see you Thursday and your mommy will take good care of you. I will be moving as you know and taking care of Grandma also. We will fit in some fun time. Love ya son. Mom xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Sounds gross and new-ageish, but get yourself a Neti pot. They work wonders from what I’ve been told. Saline nose spray as well really helps.
I’ll be thinking of you on your trip and sending you and your Mom ( Hi Howard’s Mom!!) good vibes.

When we traveled back from Syracuse over Christmas I was sick too…it was awful because we flew on Christmas day and our flight got changed to another airport with more waiting. The only thing that helped was Niquil..it made me sleep on the plane, and got me drunk while awake. You could try that and I won’t tell anyone. And Theraflu strips (they melt on your tongue) are good for temporary relief.
I’m glad you are looking forward to the wedding, but this post reminds me of my newfound devotion to God in the upcoming week. I keep praying deargodpleasepleasePlEASEdon’tletmehavewhathowardhasonmyweddinday

Hope you are feeling better already. I don’t have any advice on flying sick. I rarely fly and have never been sick (thankfully) on a flight, although I have gotten sick FROM a flight.
Take time to just BE with your grandma. Maybe it’s fortunate to know the value of the visit and treat it accordingly. Take care.

I had the misfortune of watching one of their episodes and I can confirm Howard’s testimonial; The Doodlebops are fucking attrocious. Thank god you redeemed your ears with some XTC afterwards.
Speaking of God and XTC, not sure if you’ve heard it or not but Tricky covered “Dear God” a while back and it’s absolutely awesome. Here’s a link to to song, sans video.
