Corduroy

In which Howard comes across as totally materialistic…
Nope, not the fabric — although I do love the feel of it on my skin. So bumpy. So textury. So funny to see the imprint left on someone’s sleepy face. No, no, Corduroy is my new 160GB iPod Classic. So sweet. So flashy. So slow.
Well, my iMac is anyway. Since Apple foolishly decided to forgo Firewire support (you bet I’m bitter), I’m left with USB 1 since my Mac is six years old. Oy, but it’s taking a long time. I have close to 15,000 songs to transfer and, when all is said and done, 24 hours will have crawled by. As of this writing, there are still 3,000 left to go.
But, oh, what fun will be had once it is done. I already bought a game and am thinking of buying Ratatouille just to say I have it on the iPod. The only thing I’m going to miss is the remote that I used for Eduardo that made adjusting volume and skipping songs on the fly so very convenient. Again, damn you, Apple! Oh, how I love thee!
As you can see from this picture, I got a new case and Apple Care which is very much worth the cost to extend the tender, loving care Corduroy will hopefully not need to two years. The case is the neoprene Incase I love so much.
You needn’t worry about how I can afford it. Remember my birthday earlier this year when my friends got together to get me that massive Apple Gift Card — bless their hearts? Well, I used a portion of it. A new iMac is just not going to happen until summer at this point. Besides, Eduardo has been complaining about getting too fat. He just can’t handle all the music I fed him.
I’m not sure yet whether I’m going to keep Eduardo for the car or sell him into slavery somewhere else. The heartbreak of losing him may be too much. We’ve been through so much together. Hayes thinks I may be able to get $100 for him, which would be put into savings for a new computer. That is probably just enough to alleviate my guilt. Money. The anti-guilt drug.
Notice the album cover on Corduroy? I’m seeing Aimee’s Christmas concert on Saturday with (tee-hee) a Jew. Can’t wait! Also, I want to thank Big Daddy for suggesting Corduroy’s name. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to dive into the music.
EDIT: I plugged Corduroy here at work this morning for his first run and I believe he is trying to flatter me. The very first song he ever played was David Byrne’s “Everybody Loves You”.

Corduroy is one good looking mofo! But that’s awful about the transfer rate :(
Timing out a new iMac is tough because it’s old news very quickly. Unfortunately 2007 hasn’t been a good year for some of their products since most of their focus was on the iPhone.
And speaking of the iMac, the new version only comes in gloss, bleh. I’ve heard it’s great for movies, but bad for designers because you won’t get accurate colors and there’s so much glare. Thankfully my MacBook Pro only comes in matte.
So maybe by 2008 when you decide to buy a new one, they will have released a new iMac with a matte screen. Is matte even the right word? I sure would feel silly if I’d written this long ass comment with the wrong terminology.
But Leopard is solid, and now that the iPhone is out, maybe 2008 will bring more revisions of their other great products.
In closing, here is a video for you:

Congrats on the new purchase! I kinda miss having one gizmo for all my songs/videos.
You should check out Apple’s refurbs. I think they’ll take GC, if you want to go that route.
Oh, and seeing Aimee would be divine this Christmas.

I suggested Corduroy?
Hmmm….I don’t remember that.

Bossy isn’t that great with technology -so while you type away she reads this, “Eeeeeeeeeeeee.”

Nice. Can you believe I’ve never bought an iPod? My wife won’t let me. Something about how I’m never away from my computer for more than 30 seconds anyway.

I hope you and your new little friend are very happy together

An iMac with a matt screen? Apple forbid! Mine has the glossy screen and it’s actually far better when it comes to design work in Photoshop as the colours are much more accurate in terms of how they will look when printed. I have the big momma of the current iMac range, and the MacBook Pro, and I agree I wouldn’t want glossy on a laptop because of sun reflections - and am happy with my M Pro as is - but the desktop machine, going nowhere further than my desk, is just great with its glossiness.
And Howard - 160Gb? You’re SUCH a size queen! I find I’m using my iPod Touch all the time, and it’s easier for me to select just a few things for the 16Gb rather than fill a huge hard drive because I’d still not be including my entire collection.
I do have the 80Gb Classic but find I rarely use it unless I”m going on a long journey and then it’s a back-up for when the Touch runs out of power. x

Btw, the iPod Classic in my own experience with USB 2.0 loads very, very slowly when you first do so. It took forever but afterwards the situation improved. I find CoverFlow utterly useless on its small screen - it’s clever, but only comes into its own and becomes useful on the Touch screen, being so much bigger. x

Since Eduardo has a remote could we maybe use him for our wedding music? Just thinking of what would be easiest for you Mr. DJ

I love the new iPod Classic - but yeah, running it on USB 1 must be mind numbing. I’ve decided to get a new iMac next September - assuming Google Adwords and Linkshare cooperate ;) (Oh yes, and hopefully I’m still working).
