Love For Our Robot Overlords Mix

UPGRADE TO MIX AVAILABLE HERE

I realized the other day that I hadn’t done a theme mix in a while. In fact, the last one was the hold music for the special edition of Jive Talkin’, so I’ve been itchin’ to do another.

This one is all about robots. The heart of the mix is a bunch of songs about female lovebots which I used on a Monkey’s Uncle mix. When doing some research to flesh out (HA! flesh out!) the mix, I noticed that none of the robot song lists I found had the Lenny Kravitz, ELO, Duran Duran or The Buggles songs on them. I guess it takes a gay man to help his gay sisters and straight brethren get some female robot lovin’.

There are some fun surprises mixed in and the last song turned out more serious than I expected, but I really wanted to use the speech at the end of The Day The Earth Stood Still to make a point. What Klaatu has to say is just as relevant today as it was in 1951. Besides, I wanted to show my love for robots, so when they do take over, I’ll be held in higher esteem.

UPDATE: I made some tweaks to the mix including replacing one file due to my computer not ripping the song correctly. I think I have one of the CD they warned us would deteriorate — Howard Jones’ Dream Into Action. Thanks, Andy, for coming to the rescue with that one. I ordered a replacement CD last night. If you have downloaded the mix, you can certainly do it again although I’m not sure most will hear the difference.

Love it! Even a little more so because of Styx’ out and proud bassist Chuck Panozzo, who is a total sweet heart in person.

Attention to detail or me being anal as hell? :)

    Godwhacker:
I didn’t know that! So very cool! There were one of my favorite teenage-years bands.

I’ve got to listen to this one yet - did you include ‘Automatic Lover’? I can’t remember who sang it, it was a 70s disco track but I loved it as a kid. Oh, and maybe you can do a full-on sci-fi mix at some point? I’d love to hear you include Hot Gossip’s ‘I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper’! :-) x

  9. Howard Says:

I vaguely remember Automatic Lover. I wish I had thought of that one.
