Lazy Sunday: Mr. Roboto

Sunday, April 29th, 2007 at 12:42 am

After completing the robot mix the other day (which I just tweaked a third time), I realized that I hadn’t seen this Styx video in many years. Whatever small meaning Dennis DeYoung put into the song about human’s dependence on machinery is completely swept away by the cheesy visual representation of “Mr. Roboto”.

Is it me or does Dennis look more like he should be teaching some higher branch of collegiate mathematics instead of leading a rock band? “Professor DeYoung, how many pieces of eight would be needed for the cornerstone of the Paradise Theater? Is this the best of times to ask or do I have too much of that on my hands?”

Oh how I miss the big concept videos of the 80s! You can almost see the other members of Styx, behind their robot masks, plotting how they will kill Dennis DeYoung.

Howard - LOVE the Professor DeYoung questions!

Oh yuck! Anything by Styx is like nails on a blackboard to me: I hate it.

    Dr. L:
Hahaha! And I see you’re planning out a new character based on Professor DeYoung. Excellent!

    Scott:
Yeah, Styx gets that a lot. It hurts their feelings, you know. :)
