Roundup - Week Of Mar 17

Saturday, March 24th, 2007 at 12:42 am

The weekly collection of interesting reads from around the blogosphere.
Want to display your pride in making the roundup? Click here.

Let us start this week with a collection of videos, shall we?

If you like The Incredibles, you will LOVE working out with them.

Kelly found this great commercial extolling nature’s, uh, creamier side.

Using Apple as an analogy for the Iraq war? Hilarious!

How many clicks does it take to get to a 3-D version of the Tootsie Pop commercial? Two.

You don’t feel like dancin’? How about a hoedown then? No, seriously. AmethystDragon found a blue-grass version of a Scissor Sisters song.

And while they may not be videos per se, it is wonderful to listen to some of the sounds around The Hermit’s Hermitage.

Gee, what would you expect to see when ball that weighs 332,946 Earths and is composed of hydrogen and helium is on fire.

“How dare you! I paid obscene amounts of money to sit in a tub filled with water swimming with impurities! This entire time I could have just been basking in the intoxicating spray of Willy Water Bug for the same effect? Oh, how I hate you, Saratoga Springs! I thought you were cool because you had toga in your name!”

And now for something completely serious.

Spencer wrote a great piece on the current Scandal-Of-The-Week in the US government.

Some anime news for you readers who are fans.

Hayao Miyazaki is making a new movie! SQUEAL!

Naruto is coming out in film form in, unfortunately, limited cities around the country. Denver is not on the list currently which makes me very angry. Believe it! (I made a Naruto joke at the last Monkey show for exactly one person in the audience, but he laughed his ass off so it was totally worth it.)

What a great name for a scholarship.

My friend, Lorne, sent this to me. It’s Zan’s diary. You know Zan of the Wonder Twins?

You can only pull things like this when you are under twenty or over sixty. Under twenty people accept that you are not an adult yet. Over sixty and they think you are eccentric. Kevin called someone out and then was retaliated against. It takes all kinds, I guess.

I have no joke here. There is no way to outdo Scott Adams’ funniest piece ever.

Say No To Crack had two fun picture posts. I like to call them Pencil Shavings and High-Class Dinner.

And finally — I love saying that because I usually save my favorite post of the week for this section — anyway, finally, the stages of acceptance have never been funny. Until now! Olivia over at Puntabulous had one of the pieces that makes people in the funny business go, “CRAP! I wish I had thought of that!”. Congratulations, Olivia. You get the oh-so-coveted final mention in the The Web Pen Ranting Roundup!

  1. Andy Says:

Wow! Another fantastic round-up. You, Sir, are more essential than Google Reader. When it comes to blog highlights, of course. You’re a very essential personage in general terms as well. :-)

  2. Howard Says:

I try. But it’s you the bloggers of the world that make this roundup fun to do.

(Ew, I just upchucked a little)

  3. Godwhacker Says:

    Hi Howard,
on an unrelated note, I took your advice and picked up the Lily Allen cd you recommended. Loved it!!! Thanks!!!

  4. Howard Says:

Oh, good! You should probably pick up Amy Winehouse, too. There is a new British invasion happening and it’s quite smashing.

  5. The Hermit Says:

Thanks for the mention! and I agree with Andy…. your roundups are the best… the best roundups… well, except when you’re rounding up dead animals….

  6. Howard Says:

…and having my way with them? :)

Thanks, Herm. May I call you Herm? And the roundup is my little awards to the blogs I love. *sniff* I am such a good person.

  7. The Hermit Says:

Hmmm…. sure. As long as no one assumes it’s short for Herman, of the Munsters sort…
