Ernie The Keebler Elf Dies
Wednesday, February 28th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
Walker Edmiston died yesterday. He was a voice actor and puppeteer, most notably, in all my favorite Saturday morning shows Sid and Marty Krofft produced including “H.R. Pufnstuf”, “Land Of The Lost”, “Sigmund And The Seamonsters” (he voiced Sigmund himself) and my personal favorite “The Bugaloos”.
He was also the voice of Ernie, the ‘Papa Smurf’ of the Keebler tree.
When I broke the news to Hayes, the following conversation ensued:
Me: Ernie the Keebler Elf died.
Hayes: The voice of Ernie? Or did Keebler decide to go a new direction?
(this is when I laughed so hard I interrupted a meeting with a potential new client)
Me: No, the guy who did his voice. That was funny.
Hayes: hehe… I figured as much… Damn, I was hoping to see a commercial with him on his deathbed and then croaking.
Me: Like Yoda.
Hayes: exactly… and they even look similar ;)
Me: “*cough*cough* Sad you not be. Delicious cookies continue will.”
Hayes: hehe. Nice.
Thanks for the fun growing up, Walker.

May apologies go out to your boss and the prospective clients for making you disrupt their meeting. ;)

Well, it didn’t really stop the conversation, but I’m sure I’m going to have to tell the boss what I was laughing at later.

Sigh. First you point out the lack of rainbows in songs lately (but I’m glad Hayes has one in his icon) and now you tell me that an elf has died. Is it the end of the world as we know it? Seriously, it’s sad that so many of the cartoon greats (artists, voices, and others) are passing on…

Hermit:
Sorry. I’m probably going to talk about the fear of child abuse next with a comic I just read. No, seriously.
Kevin:
Excellent.
Duck:
So I’m not the only one interrupting things with laughter.

And it’s so nice to know that other people liked the Bugaloos. I was afraid it would make me gay …
oh, wait …

No, no, it was all the boas that “Big Mouth” Martha Raye wore as Benita Bizarre doing her Lucy “I wanna be on the show” routine.
Of course, I had a crush on all three of the male Bugaloos which probably didn’t help.
