Sadly, it doesn’t shock me and this realization is what’s behind my obsessive recycling. I only wish I were a family of 6 so I could make more of an impact with this.
When I read such revelations I always thing, ‘I’m so glad I’m nearly dead.’ Things are going to get mighty uncomfortable for future generations.

Scary AND sad at the same time.

amazingly, this probably DOES come as a surprise to most folks in the good ol’ U S of A.

What confounds me is the fact people STILL expect everyone to have kids. Granted the average family size has shrunk in the last few decades, but I’m already getting shit from people when I tell them I don’t want kids.
The U.S. population just reached 300 MILLION. Why are we expected to breed still? I’m not condoning population control a la China, but seriously…the world’s view of “ideal” has become sickening. Have kids, drive 2 SUVS and a sedan, built a brand new 2500 sf. house that you don’t even use half the rooms in, drive everywhere, eat eat eat eat, shop at Walmart, etc. Although there are some countries out there as bad as America, we really need to get a clue from other developed countries in Europe, etc.
People there actually WALK, their governments provide kick ass public transportation, they don’t eat to the point of exploding, and they are aware of these problems.
BAH!

I saw the word “stripping” in the title and got all excited because I thought the Webpen was going porn, like every other decent website out there. But, no, you’re all serious. Then I read Leslie’s entry and now I feel guilty because I have two kids and a house that fits us all comfortably. The shame of it all!
Then again, I NEVER shop at Walmart. And my wife just bought a Prius. And she’s getting 50 mpg. So maybe there’s hope for us after all. Now if I could just get her to strip away my resources once in a while….thank you! Try the veal!
