Real-Time Halloween Night Report

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Okay, I’m upstairs and put lights up and have the Halloween Atmosphere Mix going in a secret place in the yard and now will give you a report of what the kids are wearing tonight.   Okay, I’m having fun with this.

5:25 - Our first kid dressed as an Air Force pilot.  He was 4 or something.  So cute!

5:43 - The grim reaper showed up at the door with — get this — a kid dressed as a Curious George book.  That’s right his arms were the open pages of a book and had his candy bad hanging from his neck.  I had to put candy in his bag for him since he couldn’t move his arms.  I think we already have a best costume of the night.

5:55 - Two more kids showed up.  One dressed as some Stevie Nick’s looking thing and the other as Thing 1.  Or 2.  I couldn’t see the number.

6:22 - Pooh Bear just showed up and only wanted one piece of candy.  The three adults that were with him all laughed when I told Pooh that I had a second piece of candy and that I was being generous tonight.  They had to prompt him to say ‘trick or treat’, too.  So cute!

6:31 - Just had the killer from the Scream movies, a funky brother, a bloody skull and a sassy mama.  The best thing? As I’m giving them Snickers and M&M’s (we don’t skimp here), one of them said, "Ooo, he’s got the good stuff!"

6:38 - Just had Superman and Spider-man asking for candy.  Spider-man wanted to rush in and play with Sydney and Roo.  It was pretty funny.

6:59 - Spider-man came back! Only this time he had foam muscles and had a gruff voice like he’d been drinking whiskey all night.

7:01 - Two Power Rangers (are they still hip?) and a… uh, I guess she was dressed as a sister since she was watching over the other two, but wanted candy, too.

7:17 - HAHAHA!  Just had two girls dressed as awkward, geeky girls trying to be pretty and princess-like.  Cracked me up!

7:52 - Wow, the big kids are out.  Had 5 mid-teen kids show up.  The good thing about coming this late is that we still have tons of candy so you get more now.

8:48 - It’s time to wrap up.  Hope everyone had a safe Halloween.

Saturday Night With The Venture Bros.

The Venture Bros.

Well, here is Cameron, Matt, Leslie and I out Saturday night at the roller derby competition with the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls. It was a fun night, but I pooped out around 10:00 since I had been a fortune teller’s man servant at the Attic Bookstore’s Halloween party entertaining kids and adults. Plus I’m ten years older than all those pictured with me. Oy!

We did enter the costume competition and ended up in the final five, but the crowd didn’t know who the hell we were supposed to be. The cool thing was the people running the bout knew exactly who were dressed up as and that’s how we came to be in the Top 5.  If you look on Matt and my arms, you’ll see actual two-way wrist communicators that worked!

It was worth the hassle and money putting the costume together.  What you don’t see is custom blue Converse low tops on my feet plus that neckerchief was a bitch to track down. Yes, I lightened my hair. It had to be cartoon yellow!

Unfamiliar with The Venture Bros? Shame on you! The show is expertly written and downright hilarious at times. Check out the official site on [adult swim]. Click the characters button and you can see who were are dressed up as. Season One is out on DVD which you can purchase and get from Netflix. Hmm, it seems the entire second season is now on iTunes.  Who’dah thunk?

OMG! Shoes.

Kelly is the creation of Liam Kyle Sullivan and is one of the funniest video I’ve seen in a while.  It’s the repetitive techno and his voice that really make it.  I know he’s doing a stereotype and it’s been done before, but his twist on it is hilarious.  There is lots of naughty language, so consider that when you choose your location to view the video.

Liam also has a MySpace page. OMG! And so does Kelly! And guess what, Kelly has an album on iTunes, too!

“Zombies” - 300th Post

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Since tomorrow is Halloween, I thought I give you a slightly remixed version of the song I did for the zombie slide show.  I whipped the original out quickly and upon listening grew to hate some of the panning (left / right channel switch), so I played that down and added a few changes in the main instruments.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

So play this and the Halloween Atmosphere Mix loudly tomorrow night.  Of course, I would avoid playing Self’s "KiDdies" (free download!) tomorrow night. With lyrics like "Let’s go trick or treakin’ dress up like Marilyn Manson/Snatch up all the kiddies and then hold ‘em all for ransom" you may get some big kids dressed up as cops and I don’t think they’ll want your candy. But your new roommate will — if you know what I mean.

You can download "Zombes (Remixed)" and keep it forever if you wish.
