Finally! (The Nellie McKay Version)
Monday, September 25th, 2006 at 11:39 pmNellie McKay (pronounced mc-KIE - rhymes with ‘pie’) finally has a release date for her second album, Pretty Little Head. After arguments and splits and all sorts of delaying of things, the follow-up to her outstanding Get Away From Me will be out on Halloween — the same day as Aimee Mann’s holiday album! You can go to Pitchfork to get details of the history of what happened, but the album came so close to being released that Columbia had sent out advanced copies to the press. The reviews that were published were quite good and now the rest of us can hear it!
…in a month or so.
SQUEAL!

Oh man, it FIGURES you are a Nellie fan - as am I. I love that the title of her first (double, no less!) album was a direct contrast to Norah Jones, “Come Away With Me.”
“I Wanna Get Married” sums it up for me nicely.

Yes, I LOVE Get Away From Me and there are several bitchy, sarcastic songs that I love from it. My favorite is “Inner Peace” about the destruction of the ego and “Waiter” about her going off on a waiter because she’s so worried about the state of the world.
Can’t wait to hear the new stuff!

She may be good but I could never respect someone who pronounces their name blatantly wrong. I mean where do you get “McKey” from “mcKAY”?!?
Sorry, but I don’t like her already

It’s pronounced mc-KEYE. Not mc-KEE. Any other judgemental things you’d like to say about her without even hearing a note? Oh, I have one. Matt’s ex LOVES Nellie McKay! Bah-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Is that why they broke up? ;)

Oooo! Good one!

I checked her out on iTunes, and eh I’m not impressed. I can see why people like her but something about her voice bugs me.
So not only do I have better taste in men than Matt’s ex, but music as well. BURRRRRRN

Oh, I’m sure she’s clutching her heart right now going, “Someone just cut me down so low that I feel I must create a sign that says, ‘Don’t spit! Can’t swin!’”

AHAHAHAHA. I was just reminded of the Incredible Shrinking Woman with Lily Tomlin and Charles Grodin…Oh I wish I was a little bar of soap (bar of soap!)
I just realized that it’s so dumb I think of a bad 70’s movie and not the original classic Incredible Shrinking Man, which is much freakier and sad.

What’s even dumber is that it’s an 80’s movie. Duh! Do I have to banish you to Highlands Ranch, too?
BTW, my brothers and I used to watch that movie all the time and still can sing the theme song to Galaxy Glue. Life would go to pieces without Galaxy Glue.

[...] This is for Leslie. We’ve been having a conversation in the comments of the Nellie McKay post about The Incredible Shrinking Woman that had this “Galaxy Glue” as its end theme. I still love this song even though it’s annoying catchy. By the way, the film came out in 1981, Leslie. Duh! [...]

Like I said, I was ONE. My sister and I watched that movie an unhealthy amount during the 80’s, which is probably why we are so weird. Or we were just always weird and thats why we loved it.
