Holy Crap! It Worked!

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006 at 9:22 pm

Ok, so I took one of WordPress templates and substituted my info, got rid of the excess files and info, made my template into two different files and uploaded the files. Of course, I’m expecting it to be a mess but the blog renders perfectly. Yeah, I’m just as shocked as you. All I need to do is clean up some Blogger code and tweak the look of the posts themselves, but the hardest part is done.

I definitely am surprised you were able to relocate the template so easily but don’t be too celebratory without wishing to sound like a doom merchant - you may find your template and some plugins don’t play friendly with each other as time goes by. And of course the vast number of plugins are often flaky or temperamental anyway - put one with another that the developers didn’t anticipate and you can find your site broken until you switch a plugin off.

But hey, it’s a learning curve… Golden rule, back up your database every day. After every post, in fact. x

Yeah, that’s something I need to find. There seems to be a backup plugin installed, but haven’t sat down to see if it works.

Good job. I moved a couple months ago (as you know) and I haven’t been as dillegent going back and finding thos problems, but there are a lot of them. Images don’t come over from blogger. Videos from Youtube don’t work without a special plug-in. No spell-check. And no Javascript.

Still it’s way better than blogger.

I didn’t know about the plug-in. I just want in and put the HTML code back in to have the YouTube video show up again.
